Jazz inspired the famous Argentinean writer Julio CortĆ”zar, who in turn influenced many others, including European filmmakers such as Jean-Luc Godard and Michelangelo Antonioni. His poetry has been put to music by German composer Renard Aust and Argentinean composer Rodrigo Faina. The title of this program, Instructions, refers to CortĆ”zarās Instruction Manual, a guide to mind-expanding exercises such as winding a watch, crying and climbing a staircase.
Also: Vanessa Lannās new work Stap Verder, of which she says:
Emma Lazarusā immortal text (engraved on the Statue of Liberty in NY, and used in this work) – āGive me your tired, your poor, your huddled massesā¦ā – mirrors the belief that a society cannot successfully exist without recognizing the voice of even the smallest individual.
