DESCRIPTION:Jazz inspired the famous Argentinean writer Julio Cortázar\, who in turn influenced many others\, including European filmmakers such as Jean-Luc Godard and Michelangelo Antonioni. His poetry has been put to music by German composer Renard Aust and Argentinean composer Rodrigo Faina. The title of this program\, Instructions\, refers to Cortázar’s Instruction Manual\, a guide to mind-expanding exercises such as winding a watch\, crying and climbing a staircase.  \nAlso: Vanessa Lann’s new work Stap Verder\, of which she says:\nEmma Lazarus’ immortal text (engraved on the Statue of Liberty in NY\, and used in this work) – “Give me your tired\, your poor\, your huddled masses…” – mirrors the belief that a society cannot successfully exist without recognizing the voice of even the smallest individual.  \nDKBB live at the Bimhuis\, Amsterdam\, Friday Dec 23rd\, 20:30

DESCRIPTION:As a tribute to Willem Breuker\, who died over five years ago\, the DKBB will perform a selection of his works in new arrangements by Maarten van Norden and Bernard Hunnekink.\nWith his enormous drive\, Willem Breuker became an international figurehead for Dutch improvised music. His intense\, inspired playing has touched many people all over the world. Special guest during this evening is drummer Rob Verdurmen\, on whose flow the WBK has cruised for decades. \nAdditionally\, the band will perform Maarten van Norden’s pulsating minimal-funk ‘La Fonque’ and Rodrigo Faina’s ‘Portrait of Two Cities’ with poetry by Julio Cortázar recited by trumpet soloist Felicity Provan and by tapdancer Peter Kuit!\nAnd: finally the Donkey\, the Painter and Teo Joling make their appearance\, presenting ‘Ezeltje strek je\, tafeltje dek je’… \nBefore and after the performance our DJ/VJ Peter Kok will share historical beauty with us all\, and we will celebrate his birthday of the 5th!
